ANOTHER POINT FOR WADERS IN BOXING DAY DRAW

By

BIGGLESWADE TOWN 2 BISHOP’S STORTFORD 2

Report by David Whiteman

Biggleswade Town and Bishop’s Stortford provided good entertainment for the 250 spectators who attended the Langford Road Stadium on Boxing Day afternoon.

As with the game at Bishop’s Stortford in August, these two evenly matched sides could not be separated and a point each was a fair result.

It was the Waders who opened the scoring after 5 minutes when Reece Fielding headed in Robbie Parker’s free kick after George Bailey had been fouled. This was fitting for Reece as he was playing his last home game before the end of his loan spell from Doncaster Rovers and, if his performances for the Waders are a guide, he should have a successful career as a professional.

Darren Foxley, Jason Williams and Alfie Mason all had shots well saved by Sam Donkin in the Waders goal before Lucas Perry tripped Dean Ager in the box and Williams scored confidently from the resultant penalty to level the scores.

Just prior to the half time break, Jack Bowen had a good header saved on the line by full back Tom Clifford.

Into the second half and the Waders regained the lead on 53 minutes when captain Connor Hall turned and hit a cracking left foot volley past Tyler McCarthy, the keeper getting nowhere near the ball.

The final goal of the game came on 72 minutes when the Bishop’s Stortford captain, Marvel Ekipteta, shot along the ground past Donkin and into the corner of the net.

For the remaining 20 minutes, play was end to end and either side could have nicked the three points. For the Waders, Tony Burnett had his shot saved, Liam Brooks fired over the bar and Greg Kaziboni was tackled in the penalty area after a mazy run from his own half. For Bishop’s Stortford, Ager had two good chances but shot well wide on each occasion and Connor Hall and Tyler Walker both made last ditch clearances to keep the scores level.

A thoroughly enjoyable game and a credit to both sides.

Man of the Match: Connor Hall – strong midfield performance capped with a super goal.
