Following the disappointment of the postponement of the Boxing Day home game v Cheddar, Keynsham’s 4G pitch, allowing this game to be played in front of a good Friday night attendance of 184, illustrated the advantage of this surface at this wet time of the year.
Josh Yakub continued in goal behind a back four of Ben Snell, Kai Long, captain Jack Keen and Reece John, a midfield of Sam Roberts, Adam Crooks, Sam Downes and Chris Hind, with Mason Daggar and Josh Keen up front.
The game started brightly with quick end to end play.
On 8 minutes Jack Keen’s glancing header from a free kick was well saved by the Keynsham keeper diving to his right.
5 minutes later a Downes shot from 35 metres skimmed the bar with the keeper beaten.
Keynsham opened the scoring on 18 minutes, the centre forward’s shot deflected in, wrong footing Yakub.
On 30 minutes Yakub brought off a good save, diving to his right.
Sutton equalised a minute before half time, a move started by a Josh Keen header to Daggar whose well weighted through ball allowed Hind to collected and clinically finish.

Keynsham upped their game after the break and Yakub was called on to produce good saves in the 57th and 63rd minutes.
The hosts took the lead in the 64th minute, a quick break down the left and cross to an undefended area on the left of the box created by a Sutton player down was slickly controlled and put away.
Sutton played the first sub 2 minutes later, Roberts being replaced by Corey Rawlings.
Keynsham went further ahead in the 73rd minute, a free kick from wide right was driven low into the box eluding the defence and allowing a simple conversion.
The second sub was made 5 minutes later, Josh Keen being replaced by Adam Young.
Keynsham were now well in the ascendancy, Yakub brought off another good save in the 80th minute, diving to his left.
Their fourth came in the 81st minute, a corner from the right failed to be cleared, finishing with a crisp shot into the corner.
Keynsham’s last came in the 90th minute, a mistake on the left hand side of the Sutton defence allowed the ball to be accurately played in, allowing a simple finish
Sutton scored a late consolation on 90 + 2, Downes found himself in space 20 metres out and shot accurately into the top left corner.

A disappointing result following a good first half that the Keynsham supporters thought that Sutton had ‘shaded’.
Next, a home game v Calne Town on Saturday the 6th January, weather permitting.
