1XV vs Stourbridge Lions (2.15pm away)

Unfortunately, the 1XV suffered 'one of those days' last Saturday against Hereford. Whilst coming away with a losing Bonus Point, they will be justifiably upset that they didn't claim all 4 points - full Match Report below

https://www.pitchero.com/clubs/camphillrfc/teams/24307/match-centre/1-2840509

With Sutton Coldfield trouncing Rugby Lions, and with Melbourne picking up a valuable losing Bonus Point at high flying Bromsgrove, the battle to avoid relegation appears (at the moment) to be between us, Melbourne, Sutton Coldfield and Wolverhampton.

This Saturday, the 1XV travel to Stourton Park to take on Stourbridge Lions. With a current playing record of Played 17, Won 8, Drawn 1 and Lost 8, 'Stour' sit comfortably in Mid-Table. Of the 8 victories to date, they have notched up 2 notable Home 'W's' against 3rd placed Bromsgrove (36-22) and 4th placed Stoke (51-26)

This will be the fourth consecutive season that we have come up against Stourbridge Lions with both sides having been promoted to this level last season.

Our first meeting in the 2014/15 season at Stourton Park ended in a 34-17 defeat. A penalty try and one by Jan-Erik Andersen plus two conversions and a penalty from Barney Edwards accounted for our points that day.

The return fixture ended all square with both sides scoring 36. Ryan Large, Harry Cunningham, Liam Lindsey and Jan Van der Walt plus another penalty try with Barney adding 4 conversions and a penalty.

Camps' came out on top in both encounters in the following season.A narrow 25-24 victory at home when Rob Hill scored two tries, Jonny Betty and Stephen Halbert one each and Barney added a conversion and a drop goal. The return was one of Camps most emphatic away wins in recent seasons running out 48-8 winners. Rob Hill scored another brace that day whilst Messrs Lindsey, Bolger, Betty, Freeman and Anderson scored one each. Briggsy kicked 4 conversion.

Last year Stourbridge triumphed in a 100 point game at The Shrine. The 45 we scored came from two tries by Lloyd Roberts, one each from Rob Freeman, Matt Clarke, Rob Hill, Stephen Halbert and Mark Newton plus 5 conversions from Barney.

The return was another memorable victory for Camps on the way to securing a runners-up spot in the league. Tries from Harry Cunningham, Adam Willis and Mark Newton, all converted by Barney gave us a 21-12 victory.

Please note that this Saturday, the Stourbridge National League (North) side will also be at Stourton Park hosting Leicester Lions RFC. A large crowd will be expected for this game, hence, if you are travelling to support the 1XV, we strongly advise that you arrive a little earlier than normal.

As you will now come to expect by now, there are a number changes to the Squad that lost narrowly to Hereford last Weekend.

In the Back Division, Brandon Lea and Dan Robinson retain the 9 & 10 jerseys, and the Centre partnership George Wilksinson and Ian Briggs are also unchanged. After his debut from the Bench last Saturday, Reece Chapman-Carry makes his first start by replacing Jordan Oliver on the Wing, Jordan in turn moves to Full Back.

In the Forwards, there is only one change with Auston Bolger making a welcome return in the Front Row.

On the Bench, former Club Captain, Mark Newton returns after injury to join Front Row replacement, Will Wallwork and 'utility back' Stuart Watts
