That's better Colts!
First points on board.
Today Colts welcomed Coedpoeth to Casty as we turned out a much changed team from our very sad performance
on Tuesday night at Mynyndd Isa.
Missing were Rich Hamer, Harry Edwards and Scott Williams, also the suspended Tom Adams, and we welcomed Rob Darlington for his full debut in centre midfied, Owen Ward moving to fill the vacant centre back role alongside brother Keith. Third brother Rob returned up front
to partner Josh Price. Rhys Williams coming in at Right back. Smudge RM. Josh Coleclough made a first start too. Arthur being Captain for the
We had played Coedpoeth in a very entertaining friendly at Lex 3 weeks ago, getting beaten 3-2 that day.
Manager Craig Salisbury was away for the day at a Wedding, so Josh Evans and Tom Adams were the voices on the sidelines.
We started with the strong wind in our favour, both teams having pressure early on in an even start to the game. But we were looking more
secure and comfortable at the back, and having more territory with Rob Ward being the main threat down the left. Josh Price had a great run
and long range effort just past the post, and we now put the pressure on. Rob Ward went close, then we broke the deadlock from a corner when a Coedy player inexplicably handled the ball as the corner came in, for a certain penalty on 29 minutes. Arthur Doo struck his pen
low and hard to the keeper's right for our first League goal of the season. Then just before half time the visiting keeper tipped a superb
strike onto the bar. From the resulting corner Keith Ward headed over. HT 1-0
The lads now had to face the strong wind, but got some breathing space on 51 minutes when Josh Coleclough chased a ball to the byline,
his clever volleyed cross arrived at the far post for Rob Ward to head into the corner from 8 yards out. Coedpoeth then introduced ex- Casty
player Kevin Breese, and he had an immediate impact, placing a superb through ball into the path of Jamie Williams who slid the ball home
on 53 minutes. So 2-1, but the Colts looked resolute, and continued to make the better chances, Rob Ward having another great run but having his final shot blocked, Josh Price being harshly denied when he scored but was deemed to have fouled a Coedy defender.
New signing Rob Darlington was giving us great energy in midfield, and late on he was flattened in the area when he looked certain to score,
but the Referee somehow failed to give us the penalty. Then after good work down the left by Rob Ward, his cross was turned just wide from
close range by sub Nathan Davies.
Coedpoeth also enjoyed some pressure but failed to create any clearcut chances as the game ended with a pleasing 3 points for the Colts.
Much better teamwork today, with Rob Ward a huge threat, Josh Coleclough very impressive, and New Assistant Manager Adam Thomas
very secure in goal. But today's choice for Man of the Match is debutant Rob Darlington, who gave us great energy in midfield, played
the simple ball and rarely gave possession away. Next up it's New Brighton away on Tuesday night.
