Tomahawk Hat-Trick Seals The Show

By

Boss Hogg Also Scores in Comfortable Win

Following a four week break for poor weather and Christmas festivities, some looking like they’d been more festive than others, M3’s returned to action with a ‘home’ fixture at Slazenger 4’s. To get in the mood and in typical January conditions, ie Baltic temperatures and low sunshine the team arrived extra early to watch the preceding game. Either that or Boss Hogg had once again given a ridiculously early meet time.
Team news showed a squad of 14. It would have been less but Boss Hogg’s attempt at motorway carnage failed miserably and so all the team had arrived in on piece. Gandalf had returned in goal with Typhoo and Shep assisting Boss Hogg in defence, Gina G rotating through the game. The midfield, marshalled by Hutch included Von Ryan on the left, Fitbit on the right and Chuckle#2 in the centre, with Flavio and Mad Max providing cameos throughout the game. The forward line consisted of IceBurg, Gigolo and Tomahawk Bandit, sporting his new Christmas tomahawk stick!! Not forgetting the man with the whistle, Reg Hollis.
The game started and Chap immediately blew the cobwebs away and took control of the game. Von Ryan and Fitbit were finding space on the flanks and feeding Tomahawk Bandit and Iceburg on the wings. Only a couple of minutes in and Von Ryan won a free hit. Leaving the ball for Hutch, Von Ryan dragged a player wide. Further forward Tomahawk Bandit took the opportunity to make a superb run from wide left, behind the defence, to receive Hutch’s long pass near the baseline inside the D. With the entire defence by-passed he advanced the ball a couple of yards to improve the angle before nutmegging the keeper to give Chap an early lead.
The lead was nearly doubled shortly after. This time the chance came from a ball played in from the right. The keeper made an initial good save but IceBurg, following up, was certain he’d scored with a delicate lifted shot over the keeper only to see the ball inadvertently hit the keepers helmet as he tried to recover from the first shot. Soon after though the lead was doubled. Some good play in the centre of the park saw the ball eventually find the ever energetic Fitbit. Breaking forward he was able to play a ball into Gigolo. Gigolo turned down his own scoring opportunity to play in Tomahawk Bandit who calmly repeated his earlier goal by nutmegging the Slazengers keeper in a 1 on 1.
Chap then had a bit of a lapse. All of a sudden a few stray passes were played and Slazengers began to grow into the game. A break down the middle saw Boss Hogg in a foot race with his Slazenger opponent. Fortunately Boss was victorious and played the ball out and to safety. Slazengers were gaining confidence though and managed to attack the Chap D a couple of times towards the end of the half. Gandalf however did not allow anything to pass.
The second half started and Chap, though not at their earlier rhythm, improved and took back the initiative. This lead to a penalty corner for Chap which Boss Hogg despatched with a fine strike to extend the lead to 3-0.
Slazengers for their part never gave up. They applied some pressure of their own which saw them gain five consecutive penalty corners. The defence managed these tigerishly and the ball was eventually cleared without a serious attempt on goal.
The action then switched to the other end and Tomahawk Bandit was once again played in by Gigolo. Once again Tomahawk stayed composed to fire into the corner to complete his hat-trick and effectively end the hopes of Slazengers at 4-0.
Further chances were created to increase the lead with both Tomahawk and Gigolo missing the target with the goal gaping before a fabulous double save by the Slazengers keeper further prevented each of them adding to the tally.
And so the game ended 4-0, a very satisfactory performance given the long break. MOM was Tomahawk Bandit for his new stick hat-trick, DOD going to Gigolo for leaving his trainers in the changing room.
