As they defeat local rivals

Cleethorpes Town JFC U16 coast in to the 1/4 final of the u16 County Cup.

In Challenging conditions the young owls put in an impressive display beating Grimsby Borough U16 7:0.

Cleethorpes lined up with Ritchie Richardson in goal, a back four of Jack Newman, Niall Togher, Scott Leighton and Josh Phillips. Centre midfield partnership of Mark Toulson and Dan Mason. Attacking Midfield trio of Harry Stuart, Josh Hyldon and Tyler Harding, with Joe Clark as the lone striker. Subs where Aaron Lewis, Harry Smith an Ben Wallis.

The first half was a cagey affair as Cleethorpes played into a very strong wind and wintery conditions. Both sides struggled to cope with the wind but worked very hard. Chances where few and far between but Joe Clark and Tyler Harding had a couple of half chances which where saved by the Borough keeper. Unfortunately Scott Leighton had to come of injured after a robust challenge that could have quite easily seen a card for the Borough player. Dan Mason then covered superbly as centre back.
The half ended 0:0.

After a brisk half time team talk Cleethorpes came out for the 2nd half fired up. With the wind at their backs they started to gain control of the game. The tireless work of Joe Clark paid dividends when he broke free to chase an Aaron Lewis through ball and lob the keeper. 1:0 and the young owls seemed to then relax. There then came a quick fire double from Tyler Harding, well deserved as he showed great composure in front of goal.

The game then got a bit scrappy as the wintery conditions got worse. Borough where finding some joy through the middle but any shots where from distance which Ritchie Richardson dealt with easily. To counter the midfield threat Jack Newman was pushed into the midfield. This seemed to work immediately breaking up the Borough play. Jack found himself on the score sheet from some great tracking back play from Joe Clark, Tracked his player back 30 yards won the ball and slid a pin point pass behind the back four for Jack Newman to run onto, he beat the keeper to the ball and fired his shot into the bottom corner.

With the game effectively won Aaron Lewis moved to centre back to give him a breather. Dan mason was moved into midfield and he immediately found himself free in the box, the ball came in from Tyler Harding and Dan fired a half volley to the keepers left and into the net, great finish.

Cleethorpes where well on top now and Grimsby Borough changed their goalkeeper. The new goalkeeper thwarted Josh Hyldon twice with two great saves, he also pushed a joe Clark effort over the top of the bar.

However, with five minutes left the Owls had a corner from the left, josh Hyldon whipped the ball across, Ben Wallis attacked the front post and fired a bullet header into the top corner of the net. Great goal.
There was still time for Cleethorpes to add a 7th. Harry Stuart received the ball on the right, with his quick feet he moved the ball onto his left and fired in a rasping drive from 20 yards out. The keeper managed to get his hand to the ball but the pace was to much and it nestled into the net.

An impressive second half display and the lads eagerly await the 1/4 final draw.
