The First Team collected all three points against a stubborn Welshpool side at Ty Brith on Saturday. Peter Rees got the all important goal in a match we dominated from start to finish.
Manager Chris Davies recalled Chris Brown and Ger Jones to the squad but was still without Ben Richards, Danny Pierce, Adam Williams, Gregg Brown and Cal Breese for the match.
We dominated the first 45 minutes and somehow didn't make the breakthrough. We were a constant threat from set pieces with Drew Reynolds, Jordan Jones and Ioan Humphreys all spurning chances to take the lead. Steve Jones and Toby Evans both had chances but failed to test the keeper as we looked for the opening goal. Ashley Owen narrowly missed the target with a free kick as we kept the pressure on towards the end of the first half. Peter Rees came closest to opening the deadlock but dragged his shot wide of the post. Welshpools best chance of the game came 10 minutes before the end of the half, keeper Chris Brown was equal to the effort though as he tipped the shot over the bar for a corner. The first half ended 0-0.
The second half started with Welshpool applying some early pressure on our back four but we weathered the storm and took the lead 10 minutes into the second half. Some neat play in midfield allowed Ashley Owen to put Peter Rees clear, his shot beat the Welshpool keeper to send us 1-0 up. We controlled large parts of the second half but rarely threatened their keeper. Welshpools long ball approach was dealt with by keeper Chris Brown and the back four as we recorded our first three points of the season.
A game where we should have been out of sight by half time, we stuck to the task and got the three points in the end.
