Two Points Dropped

It was the visitors who started the game well. In the first 15 minutes they had all the ball as we tried to find a foothold in the game. There midfielders were causing problems and we looked all over the place. They had a few dangerous corners and a couple of efforts on goal but Kris Williams dealt with everything well. A good bit of one touch football saw the visitors release striker Richie Davies but Ben Richards managed to get his body in the way whilst Kris Williams cleared. Slowly we managed to get into the game and Adam Williams started to get more space and found some passes in behind the Berriew defence. After 20 minutes Harry Holt was put one on one but his half volley was saved well by Dave Jones. Minutes later a quick throw from Tom Richards put Peter Rees through who cut it back to Harry Holt who's effort went over the bar from 12 yards out.

Peter Rees was becoming more and more dangerous down the right hand side and Adam Williams found him with a nice pass and early cross to the near post to but Ger Jones failed to make contact and the ball was gathered easily by the Berriew keeper. On the half hour mark a corner deflected at the near post and Daniel Lewis looped a header towards the far post that landed on the roof of the net. Rees continued to cause problems and beat his man a few times to cut the ball back but the Berriew defence dealt with everything until the end of the half.

The second half started and within 10 seconds Carno took the lead. A long ball from Dan Goodman wasn't cleared by the Berriew defender and Ger Jones got to the ball first and fed it wide to Harry Holt who took one touch inside his man and with the outside of his foot drove the ball into the far corner. A perfect start to the half. Carno continued to push for a second. Tom Richards pressed well and won the ball high up the pitch and fed Andrew Evans who went through one on one only to see his effort tipped over the bar well by Dave Jones. A quick attack from the visitors saw a Richie Davies header at the back post go straight in to the hands of Williams. Carno could have doubled their lead moments later as a through ball to Peter Rees caused confusion between the visitors keeper and centre half but luckily for them the keeper got a foot to it and cleared it out for a throw in.

In the 65th minute Berriew then had their best chance of the game as good work down the right by Richie Davies saw him cut it back to Seliarts who's first time effort was fired over the bar from 10 yards out. This was a real let off for the home side. However minutes later we had an identical chance with another Tom Richards quick throw putting Harry Holt in down the left who cut it back for Andy Evans who took one touch to compose himself but then blazed it over the bar from 10 yards out. With 20 minutes remaining the visitors hit the post as Chris Carrol hit a 20 yard curler. The home side then had a string of corners with Daniel Lewis spinning and volleying but it was well blocked. Harry Holt then picked the ball up 10 yards inside the half and drove towards goal and unleashed an effort that Dave Jones just tipped past the post. In the 80th minute Berriew were awarded a dubious free kick 25 yards out and Seliarts fired his effort straight at Williams who held well. Then with 5 minutes remaining Steve Jones bent a lovely ball to the back post but Andy Evans's header went just wide. The game looked over but in the 93rd minute with seconds remaining on the clock the visitors played a long ball forward and Seliarts won a corner. Everyone was in the box and it was the Berriew keeper who rose the highest to flick the ball on and it fell at the feet of a Berriew defender who's effort squeezed past a wall of defenders and into the net.

The match finished 1-1. Disappointing result for us in the end as we created a lot of chances but never put them away. We now move on to the FAW Trophy next Saturday as we face a very tough away trip to neighbours Llanfair United.
