2017-2018 Captains Letter

By Ali Smart

Dear Player, After a mostly positive season, we need to look to the future and realise our goal of winning West division 2

Beating teams like Cambuslang and Stewartry in recent years who have took the step to division 1 shows the potential we can fulfil, whereas drawing 0-0 to Cumnock in our final game of the year cost us 3rd in the league and seen us slip to below local rivals Paisley. This emphasises the commitment required throughout the entire season if we want to progress as a team and club, commitment to training and playing games will help us reach the level where we aspire to be.

Pre-season training will commence the Tuesday 27th June and will continue every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at John Browns playing pitches. A strong preseason will stand us in good stead for the long season ahead with the number of games increasing this year to 22 from 16.

The 1st XV will be playing in a revised West Division 2. With no teams relegated from above for the forthcoming season, this may well be our best opportunity to move beyond West Division 2 and compete at a higher level.

The 2nd XV will be looking to put last season behind them after falling foul to league reconstruction and being relegated to West reserve division 3. This will give the 2nd xv the opportunity to build on strong performances from last season and play against local foes such as Paisley and Cumbernauld.

As a group of players we should be setting ourselves targets for the season ahead and both the 1st and 2nd XV’s winning their respective leagues should be something we will be collectively working towards.

The coaching team this season, led by David Miller, will be looking to push players to perform to the best of their ability, this can be achieved through attending training and giving David the respect by putting in your maximum effort for the duration of the sessions.
During the winter months we may end up revising our training schedule and location and this will put even more emphasis on players attending sessions to ensure we get to train as a team, this may also put an onus on to individuals to train and develop on your own time.

The works for the Community sports hub will be starting very soon and at present we are utilising the facilities at John Browns. Post match we have been welcomed to the Twisted Thistle in Old Kilpatrick, lets show our gratitude to these places by ensuring we leave the John Browns facilities clean and tidy and get along to the Twisted Thistle to enjoy post match refreshments.

I look forward to seeing you at pre-season training and here is to a successful 2017/2018 campaign.
