Reserves in action tomorrow at Compton Park.

Irchester United make the short trip down the A45 on Saturday for a UCL Reserve Division game.

With Daventry Town in F.A Cup action today, the fist team’s trip to Elderstubbs has been put back until Tuesday night, with that game being dependant on our hosts not having to travel to Grantham for a replay.
This means for the second Saturday in three weeks the Reserves take centre stage with a home game against local rivals Irchester United. It has been a mixed few days for the second string, losing their 100% record last weekend with a disappointing 4-1 reverse on the 3G at Yaxley and then getting knocked off top spot by Bugbrooke St Michael on Wednesday following the Badgers 2-0 win at O.N Chenecks, but on a plus note Craig Hayward was deservedly given the Reserve Division Manager-of-the-Month for August which was hardly surprising as his team won every single match. The gaffer is still away so assistant Ben Avery will be in charge again as he tries to put last weekend’s defeat behind them and start another winning run.
Irchester United are usually one of those teams who don’t make it easy for you and their last gasp 3-2 at O.N Chenecks last Saturday will have given them confidence going into this one after they secured their first three points of the season. They previously had two draws and two wins on their record and currently sit in twelfth spot, eleven places and seven points behind the Cooks.
Last season’s encounter at Compton Park ended 2-2 with Alex Lowery and Harry Chipchase netting for the Cooks, while last Saturday’s match-winner Daniel Bailey and Marcus Dowman scoring for The Romans. Dowman, along with a couple of his teammates that day are now with Bugbrooke and featured in the abandoned game here a couple of weeks ago. The game at Alfred Street was even more entertaining for the spectators, ending 4-4!
Kick-off is 3pm so admission at just £3-00 and the bar open, it’s well worth spending a couple of hours at Compton Park on Saturday.
