Nomads and Prestatyn serve up a treat.
By Ben Nash
Nomads and Prestatyn draw in a goal fest.
Nomads fielded a slightly different looking team, including 3 Trialists, having 3 players representing the year above also.
Nomads started the game with a fantastic tempo and purpose to them, the returning Oli Evans setting Trialist up for a goal on 6 minutes, followed by both Trialists linking up to put the Nomads 2-0 up on 15 minutes.
Nomads were playing some fantastic football, Evans and McQue linking well in the two central positions, Mercer looking very comfortable at the back.
The start of the next third was a vast contrast to what came before, Nomads came out sluggish and paid the price.
With 10 minutes gone in the third Prestatyn were 3-2 up. Nomads conceding some poor goals, committing men forward and being caught on the break, an all too familiar pattern in recent games.
The introduction of Evans from a short break changed the flow of the game and within a couple of minutes he had slid Whittingham through who finished well.
Whittingham could of had a couple more, however a mistimed shot and a good save from the Prestatyn keeper kept the scores at 3-3.
We were now into the last 20 minutes of the game, Nomads were well on top and looked comfortable again, with 10 minutes left Nomads were caught on the break and Prestatyn went 4-3 up.
It got worse for Nomads as only a minute later players were caught out of position and Prestatyn punished them to make it 5-3, an uphill battle faced Nomads for the last 9 minutes.
Nomads were now forcing the issue, McQue at left back playing some brilliant balls forward to get Nomads up the pitch quickly, one of the moves of the game came from a quick McQue pass to start a Nomads break, Heath took the ball and fed the advancing Hughes on the RW who took 2 touches and fed Whittingham, a brilliant break by Nomads which just needed a finish, however Whittingham fired over the bar!
With 7 minutes left Whittingham redeemed himself, following up after good work from Heath on the RW to smash the ball home.
It was now very much attack v defence for the last 5 minutes of the game.
The Prestatyn defence stood firm and Nomads looked out of ideas, seeing 2/3 long range shots sail way over the bar.
In the dying seconds Hughes pressed the keeper after a McQue pass, Hughes brilliant work won Nomads a throw in- in the Prestatyn final third, Liam Ellis showed some good awareness to pick the ball up and throw it to Evans, Evans took 1 touch from the throw and smashed the ball into the bottom left corner to make it 5-5 with virtually the last kick of the game.
A never say die attitude by Nomads in a game where they were far from their best.
2 goals in the last 7 minutes to rescue a draw however was great to see.
Man of the match was Oli Evans who has kept up his brilliant run of form as of late, capping it off with another long range strike to steal a draw.
