Nomads host Airbus.

Nomads lose out to Airbus.

Nomads and Airbus served up another thriller on a warm September afternoon.
Nomads started the better team, making the most of the big pitch and keeping the ball with some high tempo passing and movement. 7 minutes in and great work from Cronshaw on the right saw the shot fall to Hughes, his shot was saved but only far enough for Hayes to tuck in the rebound, 1-0 Nomads. On 15 minutes Nomads doubled there lead, a good attacking move saw Parsley slide in Evans to make it 2-0. Right at the end of the third, 5 slack minutes from Nomads and some poor defending saw Airbus nick 2 goals, one a tap in and one a 25 yard strike.
The quarter belonged to Nomads but some poor defending right at the end let Airbus back in.
The next 20 minutes Nomads were dominate, some good attacking moves and limiting Airbus to few chances, the only downside was missed chances as they could have been out of site. A brilliant reverse through ball from Scott send Hughes through, he made no mistake and it was 3-2 to Nomads at the half way point. 1 minute into the fourth quarter, great work from Alfie Parsley closing down saw him win the ball back off the defender, and go all the way to put Nomads into a deserved 4-2 lead. Within 2 minutes, the score was 4-4 however. Airbus went more direct and Nomads found it hard to defend against, a couple of direct balls to the striker where Nomads didn’t deal with the ball properly, and with half hour left the score was equal. The next goal was always going to be important, and Airbus got it, an Airbus throw on the left hand side from a fairly comfortable position, Mercer lost out to the Airbus forward and straight from the throw he was in on goal and it was 5-4.
20 minutes remained, Nomads had now reverted away from the good patient football that had them leading and comfortable, and were now rushing and making poor decisions as they were chasing the game.
A Nomads chance went begging to bring the score equal, straight from the
Keepers long kick Nomads failed to deal with the first ball, they were punished as the striker ran through and tucked the ball away. 2 touches was all it took for the ball to be in the back of Nomads net from an Airbus goal kick.
Nomads now chased the game even more and right at the death they were picked off as Airbus sealed a 7-4 victory.
Nomads played some lovely stuff, especially in the first 50 minutes of the game, however same as their prior meeting earlier on in the season, Nomads struggled when defending direct balls and got caught out when 1v1 defending too many times. When the game became more physical Nomads struggled where Airbus excelled, instead of trying to play the football which gave Nomads a 4-2 lead, it went out the window and they became more scrappy, playing right into Airbus hands.
Man of the match was a defender though, Kieran Whittingham was superb on the day, playing all 80 minutes and showing up his teammates with some brilliant 1v1 defending and last second challenges, well done Kieran.
Tough one to take, as Nomads will feel for the second time this season they’ve been the better side and lost the game, however lessons to learn going forward.
