Cup draw announced by The FA today

On Friday afternoon we discovered our opposition in this season’s major cup competitions when The FA released full details of draws for the opening rounds of The FA Cup, The FA Vase and The FA Youth Cup.

FA CUP:
The first two rounds were released today with Coventry Sphinx receiving a home tie against Whitchurch Alport in the Extra Preliminary Round. This tie is scheduled for Saturday 11th August at Sphinx Drive. Shropshire club Whitchurch Alport will make the journey from North of Shrewsbury to Coventry for this FA Cup tie. Whitchurch Alport compete at the same level as Coventry Sphinx (step 5) after winning promotion via a play off last season. Their league season will be in the North West Counties League Premier Division.
The winners of that tie will progress to the Preliminary Round where they will face an away trip to the winners of the Walsall Wood v Worcester City tie. Walsall Wood and Worcester are both expected to be in the promotion picture in Coventry Sphinx’s Midland Football League Premier Division. The date for this Preliminary Round tie is set for Saturday 25th August.

FA VASE:
The opening rounds of The FA Vase were also revealed today with Coventry Sphinx handed a home tie against MFL Premier Division opposition in the First Round Qualifying. Black Country side Sporting Khalsa will visit Sphinx Drive on Saturday 1st September. Khalsa have consistently finished at the top end of the league in the last few years so an interesting contest awaits.
The winners of that tie will move on to the Second Round Qualifying where they will take on the winners of Gornal Athletic v Stone Old Alleynians away from home on Saturday 15th September.

FA YOUTH CUP:
The Coventry Sphinx Under 18’s are back in the FA Youth Cup and they will enter at the Preliminary Round stage. Their opponents will be Tamworth based Coton Green who compete in the Midland Floodlit Youth League Eastern Division alongside Coventry Sphinx. This tie will take place at Sphinx Drive on Week Commencing Monday 3rd September.
The successful team will progress to the First Round Qualifying on Week Commencing Monday 17th September where they face an away trip to MFYL Eastern Division side Rugby Borough.
