Yesterday (01/05/18), we made the short journey to face Amlwch Town FC in another mouthwatering derby. The team was full of confidence going into the game following our win against Llanfairpwll FC. Two changes were made to the team - Geth Nelson and Cai Ab Arfon coming in for Steffan Lewis and Cameron Owen.
First Half began with Llan playing into a strong wind but got their rhythm going quite early on with some good movement and passing around the field. First decent chance fell to Gethin Hughes when he couldn't convert his header when being free from a corner. Llan were forced into an early change, Matty O' Hara had a knock on the knee forcing him off to be replaced by Jerome Sillence. After this, Amlwch found some rhythm of their own and gained the upper hand for a spell of the game and they were awarded a penalty when Lewis Connor was adjudged to foul James Burgess, which was very harsh in lot of the away side view but was given. Gareth Allman stepped up to take it but Pete Finn produced a superb stop to deny him to keep the score at 0-0. Further chances were produced by both teams with the woodwork been struck by both teams.
Half Time - Amlwch 0 - 0 Llan
Second Half began with both teams trying to force the issue of getting that all important breakthrough in the game, a few half chances created by both teams, again the best chance falling to Gethin Hughes from a corner but he couldn't convert his chance and Iwan Williams stinging the palms of Harvey Williams in the goal for Amlwch. On 53 minutes, we were to pay for our missed chances as Amlwch took the lead. Quick throw in caught us napping and the ball fell to former Llan player Tom Wood who drove to the box and unleashed a shot at goal which Peter Finn could only palm out for Tom Wyn to pounce and tap in to the net - 1-0 to Amlwch. Llan were right up against it now and a couple of substitutions were made to get some fresh legs on with Aled and Steffan replacing Cai and Iwan. Llan tried to force an equaliser and pushed on, but with gaps left in the back we were soon punished. On the 83rd minute the game was put to bed when another former Llan player Dewi Thomas collected the ball in the middle of the field and ran at our defence and finish with a bottom corner shot to leave Pete Finn with no chance.
Final Score - Amlwch 2 - 0 Llan
Overall, a disappointing result for us as we created excellent chances to take the lead in the game but couldn't convert them. And against a quality side like Amlwch you are going to get punished and that's what happened. Couldn't fault the effort the lads gave and they kept going until the end. The final game of the season sees us play Mochdre Sports on Tuesday 22nd May at Bangor City's 4G pitch with a 6:45pm Kick Off - we hope to finish a difficult season on a high.
