Another quality player signs this morning

By Stephen Whitfield

Another piece in the jig saw. Nearly there.

After this morning's training session in Denbigh the managers Dewi and Matty were in position to announce the signing of another player.

24 yr old Lewis Jay Sirrell put pen to paper committing himself to the new Denbigh Town campaign.

This left footed player is able to play anywhere in the park be it on either wing, through the middle, central midfield or even defence if need be. Originally from the North East of England he was spotted as having potential when a child and from the age of 14 yrs to 19 yrs played for Middlesborough FC Academy. At the end of this period he signed professional terms but although he trained regularly with the first team he could not quite break into the side who were striving to get back into the Premier League. He was loaned out to Gateshead and played in the Conference League before being recalled but again that break through never happened. He was eventually released before his 21 st birthday and moved to North Wales with his family. He went to play briefly in Sweden turning out for Ostersunds F.K. [Arsenal fans will remember meeting this team in the UEFA Europa League back in February this year ] Again Lewis did not settle and came back to North Wales. He played a few times for Colwyn Bay reserves upon his return and at the end of last season Chris Morrell was in charge of Llandudno Junction and he signed Lewis who then played for the Railwaymen towards the back end of 2017/18.

This pre season Lewis has been training with Dewi and Matty at Denbigh Town and likes what he sees.

We welcomed him to Central Park and asked him for his thoughts to which he replied " I did not know Dewi or Matty previously but am pleased they got in touch. I suppose I fell out of love with the game a little but these two have got me back into it. I am impressed by the training and the quality of the players gathered together especially being as they started from scratch, which is what I believe. To be honest I am grateful for this opportunity and want to do my best for them and expect us to play to a decent standard. Looking forward to the new season now."

Matty Jones was happy and told us " We are delighted that Lewis has joined the squad. He has an excellent pedigree and has been superb in pre season training. "

Looking forward to watching you play Lewis. Good luck and welcome to Denbigh.

Keep an eye out for further news on last minute signings as the new season draws nearer !
