Transfer News - Player makes debut at Bangor

Denbigh Town have recently signed 21 yr old Alieu Sheriff on loan from Flint Town United.

He is a strong, 6ft 2in tall centre forward of Dutch and Liberian nationality. Those supporters who travelled to the recent Bangor City game will have seen Ali make his debut up front and despite the scoreline he had plenty of the ball and showed what he is capable of.

We spoke to Ali and asked him to introduce himself to the Denbigh supporters. He explained that he moved from Liberia to Holland at the age of 4yrs and was playing football regularly by the time he was 7yrs. He was noted as a player of promise and as he grew up he played for such clubs as AFC DWS of Amsterdam and had trials with first division FC Utrecht and second tier Volendam before moving to the UK with his mother at the age of 15yrs. He is currently studying for a degree in Business Management and Human Resources in Manchester.

We asked him what other clubs he has played for and he replied
" My first club at Manchester was Cheadle Town u18s then Chadderton u21s and a season later I joined FC United of Manchester. I was trialling with Bangor City at this time and eventually signed for them. I signed for Flint at the beginning of this season but, for a number of reasons, another move would be beneficial and so I agreed to come to Denbigh Town. "

We had heard that you had played international football for Liberia ?
" Yes, That is correct. I played for Liberia u20s in Monrovia against Guinea back in April 2016 in the AFCON qualifiers which was a great experience and I am currently part of the under 23yrs squad."

As for his move to Denbigh Ali said
" I have been to St Asaph to see where the club train and saw the facilities there which are really good. The players at the club are all good footballers and the team has such great potential. I think the side would give any team a tough game when at full strength. I am happy I have made the move to Denbigh and am looking forward to the remaining games this season. I have always told myself to work hard to be successful in life and this includes sport so you can be sure I will be doing everything I can to help Denbigh Town climb the league table."

Joint manager Dewi Llion had this to say
" Alieu comes highly recommended by Niall [ Flint manager ] and he was extremely impressive in his first game for us. He was such a threat for Flint last season and hopefully he can find his form again playing for us. From what we saw on Friday I do not think it will take him long. He is a big strong striker with a good shot and a quick turn of speed. "

Denbigh Town would like to thank the Flint manager Niall McGuinness and their club secretary Ian Norbury for all their help in making the move possible in such a quick, trouble free manner.

Denbigh Town are at home this Friday 18th January against Conwy Borough with a 7.30pm kick off so come down to Central Park to cheer the lads on and, hopefully, see Ali's first goal for us! No pressure Ali !
