Diss U9s

We Train and Play on Sunday Mornings between 1000 hrs & 1130 hrs weather permitting.

We offer a positive, encouraging and inclusive environment for players and we welcome players of all abilities, whether they have played before or are just wanting to give it a go.

Believing strongly in the RFU Core Values (Teamwork • Respect • Enjoyment • Discipline • Sportsmanship) our training sessions take a player-centric approach where players are encouraged to make choices and positively coached on their decisions. Sessions are game based and follow the England RFU coaching framework with emphasis on APES (Active • Purposeful • Enjoyable • Safe).

Games during training sessions focus on the Rugby Principles of Play appropriate for U9s Age Grade Rugby (Go Forward • Support • Pressure • Continuity • Communication). Our sessions are adaptable and we include and encourage all players to contribute to the sessions regardless of ability.

We embrace “Positive” Touchline Support and Parental participation is strongly encouraged

If your child would like to give Rugby a try, please get in touch they will be warmly welcomed.

You won’t have to pay for the first couple of sessions, although some paperwork will need to be completed for insurance purposes. Your child can train in appropriate sports clothing, you won’t need all the gear.

Contact us on the email below or feel free to turn up at a training session.

FAQs.

How old does my child have to be?

The Under 9s group contains children in Year 4 at School.

What kit will my child need?

Players who join the team will require:

Gum Shield (Under 9s Rugby is a transition year to full contact Rugby and tackling is involved)
Club Shirt
White Shorts (for matches)
Black Shorts (for training)
Blue & White club socks

(These items are all available at the well-stocked Club Shop in the Clubhouse on a Sunday morning or order online from the Diss RFC Shop. There are many other club items available such as Contact Tops, Bags, Water Bottles, Jackets, Hoodies and T-Shirts.)

Rugby boots should be worn during training and matches and it is recommended that you bring alternative footwear (Sliders are great) for players to wear in the club house after playing.

As Rugby is a winter sport we recommend a base layer (top & shorts or leggings) and gloves for the colder days, some of which are also available from the shop. Please ensure you bring suitable warm clothing for your child if it is likely to be cold or raining, children become cold quickly!

What time does my child start and finish?

Training and Matches commence at 1000 hrs and usually finish about 1130 hrs. These times may be adjusted depending on conditions and fixtures. Please arrive before the start time to ensure that your child is ready to start at 1000 hrs.

Is there a first aider available at all games and training sessions?

Yes - There are a number of trained first aiders at the club. There will be sufficient first aid equipment available at training sessions and matches.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The club and coaches will make a decision based on safety at the earliest opportunity and notify parents using WhatsApp and TeamStuff apps. We will play in the rain as long as it is safe to do so. Again please ensure you bring suitable warm clothing for your child if it is likely to cold or raining.

Are the coaches paid or volunteers?

All coaches are volunteers who give their spare time for the love of Rugby.
