Solid Team Performance as Dorking's 1st Team Win Comfortably..

By Chris Ward

DCC 1XI Win By 39 Runs...

Dorking’s 1st team started the campaign with a home game against Dulwich whereby new club skipper Toby Blood won the toss and chose to bat on a decent looking pitch.
Bradley Erasmus (newly joined from Guilford) and Club head coach Tom Lister opened. The Pair were very watchful in the first 10 overs making sure we didn’t take any risks and didn’t lose any wickets. Both added a few boundaries to any loose bowling. The Partnership was worth 66 before Tom Lister went for a well earned 29. Charlie Kenway didn’t last long as the ball seemed to hold up in the pitch and he was caught off James Bridgland. In came Dan Douthwaite at the score 66-2 and he took it upon himself to go on the attack with boundaries coming at a heavy flow. Bradley also tucking in and applying pressure until falling fall 32. Ben Rodgers came to the crease building an innings around Douthwaite who had then hit two big sixes in one over. Dan fell for a rapid 41 that the innings much needed. Pitt and Rogers then put on a key partnership which turned the game in Dorking’s favour. Rogers made 27 and Pitt struck the ball lovely for 47 not out. Dorking reaching 219-7 off their 50 overs.
After all, enjoying another splendid tea from Alison Pavey, Dorking took to the field to try and defend their 219. Skipper Toby Blood gave the new ball to Kieran Corbett and Dan Douthwaite who both have previously opened the bowling for Sutton. Kieran delivering plenty of dots put pressure on the other end for Douthwaite to make the break through. He then followed up with another in quick succession leaving Dulwich 16-2. With Dulwich in trouble Nick Hudson and Jonno Evans started to build a partnership until Chris Ward came into the attack and bowled a wicket maiden and take the crucial wicket of Nick Hudson for 28. Then Bradley Erasmus followed up the next over with the wicket of Evans. Dulwich now 59-4 and looking a long way off 219. With some tight overs coming and going Toby then gave the bowl to newly joined Jack Myers who bowled with fantastic control and pace to pick up 2-21 off his allocated 10 overs. Henry Glynn joined the wickets removing the dangerous Waqar for 30. Dorking picking up regularly wickets gave them full control of the game, though Munawar looked to give Dulwich one final chuck at the dice when left 33 not out. Douthwaite ended fine figures of 3-22 off 9 and Erasmus 2-35 off 9.2 closed the innings with Dorking bowling Dulwich out for 180. Superb Team Performance, Dorking win by 39 runs. Man of the Match voted by supporters went to Dan Douthwaite.
