DCC 4th XI via Wimbledon 5th XI

Having slowly negotiated the traffic chaos caused by the burst water main repairs along the A24, DCC arrived at the building site of Raynes Park Sports Ground and parked up just behind the cement mixers. With the A3 no more than 100 yards away, ‘scenic’ is not a word to describe the venue.

Stand-in skipper DK duly won the toss and elected to bowl first, on a green top of a wicket. Cam Homewood (2-36) got things off to a flyer with a wicket first ball of the game; WCC opener spooning a simple catch to Jamie K behind the stumps.

Sandy (3-22) was bowling well up the hill, with Cam continuing to look menacing down the slope. Assisted by some great catching by Aaron, Andy Walker & DK, WCC were in trouble at 30-4. Some lusty blows from the middle order enforced a change at both ends. DK (2-12) & Kyan (3-8) bowled tightly to wrap up the innings for 110 all out, after just 27.2 overs.
A nice touch came for the Pickering boys, playing their last game before emigrating to Australia for a couple of years, when young Edan pouched a good catch off older brother Kyan around the corner.

With 60 overs available to bat, DCC started well, with Jamie K (16) & Aaron (54*) hitting bad balls to boundary with ease. A brief flurry of wickets, Jamie, newbie Mark Simons & Tom G (golden), didn’t halt DCC, as Dan Chave (28*) joined Aaron in seeing us home after 22 overs.

All back to Pixham, to enjoy a beer and curry (good call Wingy) in the warm evening sunshine.

The result keeps DCC in 2nd place and it is looking like a 3 horse race, with Sutton just ahead and Addiscombe lurking just behind Dorking. All to play for.
