UPDATE - 16 Feb Fund Raising Dinner Wheelchair Rugby Club

By Malcolm MacDonald

Many thanks to the 20 volunteers for the fundraising dinner for Glasgow Wheelchair Rugby, at Cambuslang Rugby Club on 16 Feb. We may still be able to secure further places so if anyone is interested, please let me know. £30 each

We, along with other local rugby clubs, have been invited by our old friends Cambuslang RFC to support a charity dinner on Saturday 16 February at 7.30pm. Let me know if you would like to go. I have now told Cambus we would like to take two tables as we have 20 people willing to attend.

Dress should be smart/lounge suit, not formal. Ticket money will be collected on the night. There will be a short cabaret act, raffle and presentation regarding wheelchair rugby.

If anyone else is interested, we may be able to secure other places. It is all for a good cause:

Many of you will remember the Cambuslang player Ciaran Pryce who, while at school suffered a severe rugby injury in 2007, leaving his legs paralysed and with only limited use of his arms.

Ciaran will be twenty-one next year and is now involved in wheelchair rugby. A team has been set up in Scotland in the last year (Caledonian Crushers) and has team members from Glasgow and all over Scotland. The sport has had a huge influence on the rehabilitation of the players and improves confidence, motivation and fitness.

Frances Pryce, Ciaran’s mother, would like to help raise funds for the on-going costs of running the team and is organising a fund raising dinner to invite people to help support the team and encourage other wheelchair users to participate in sport.

The event is Cambuslang Rugby Club, Langlea Road, Cambuslang, G72 8HG on Saturday, 16 February 2013.

John Beattie (not the well known comedian altho’ he is occasionally funny) is MC.

The cost is £30 per head but clubs are encouraged to take a table of 10 for £300.

Let me know if you would like to go. This is for a good cause and as we currently share two youth teams with Cambuslang is very worthy of our support.

Information regarding Caledonian Crushers can be found here
