The Frank Woodcock Trophy was created to celebrate the principles that Frank Woodcock held dear, the awarding panel had a very difficult job deciding on a winner from the many strong nominations received – nominees listed below.
This year’s recipient of the Frank Woodcock Trophy is David Edwards
It’s hard to estimate when David joined Eccleshall RUFC as he seems to been around for as long as most can remember. David joined our club as a senior player and it was clear that he was destined for a glorious career in our 2XV, not because he lacked the ability but because of his approach to the game.
While David has his “moments” on the field his primary reason for playing is to enjoy rugby as a sport. He embraces the principles of rugby and the passion he has for the ethos and the spirit of game is clear.
David has immersed himself in Eccleshall RUFC since he joined us, playing many seasons of senior rugby and while his regular playing days maybe behind him he has been first to put his hand up this season when the 2XV have needed a few more.
As a junior coach David has excelled, his methods at times maybe seem unconventional to some but be rest assured they are based on the principles and values of the game that he holds dear.
As a volunteer, he is always to be relied upon often first to arrive and last to leave, when jobs need doing he steps up. Finally as father to Zac, it is clear to all that David is instilling the values of rugby and Eccleshall RUFC from a very early age.
