League: Post-match interview with Sean Regan (Eccleshill United FC 0-3 Winterton Rangers)

Manager Sean Regan shared his thoughts about the game after the full time whistle had gone.

Firstly, Sean discussed whether his sides inability to make their early dominance count hindered them in the match; "I think the first half was full of chances for us, and we haven't taken them."

He added; "We just got a little bit too clever, and in any game if you make as many chances as we did at 0-0, and not take any, it's always going to come back and haunt you, and it did."

Both sides were on opposite runs of form going into the game, with Winterton not winning a league game since August prior to Saturday, and Eccleshill winning their last seven.

Sean talked about whether his side should have offered more in the game; "We're on a decent run of form, but to be in with the best you have to compete, and be consistent."

"Seven games is alright, but today we weren't good enough, and the manner in which we lost was simply not good enough."

Winterton seemed more up for the game physically and mentally, and when asked if that was something that frustrated him, Sean replied; "That's back to the mentality. Technically, we've got good players, as we do in terms of physicality."

He continued on; "However, I feel that sometimes we need to be stronger mentally in certain areas of the pitch. When we go onto that pitch we need to be mentally prepared for everything, which we weren't today."

The Eagles will be boosted by the returns of talismanic midfielder Charlie Flaherty, and industrious striker Chris Lever for the next game, with Flaherty serving the last of his three game ban on Saturday.

Speaking on their returns and what they will offer, Sean stated; "They will compete with the lads in the squad, and it will be good competition for everyone like we've said before. We'll go into Wednesday's cup game hopefully with a different mentality and approach to it."

Finally, Sean talked about his realistic aims for the rest of the season, and whether a cup run factors into those aims; "I think more to the point, it's all about us in the league, and how we react to today."

He went on to say; "I'm not particularly bothered about certain results in cups, but what I am bothered about is the personalities and characters that are going to be shown, and how they will get us back on track on Wednesday."

It was a disappointing afternoon for The Eagles, but they will look to get back on track on Wednesday afternoon, when they host Yorkshire Amateurs in the West Riding County Cup.
