Match Report: Brigg Town FC 0-2 Eccleshill United FC

By

The Eagles returned to winning ways with a 0-2 victory against Brigg Town. Read on to see how the game panned out.

It was a game of two halves for Eccleshill United, who were made to step up in the second half to earn all three points.

Goals from Jonny Irving and Liam Hudson would be enough to seal the three points for Sean Regan's side as the Eagles continue to put pressure on the sides above.

However, the first half performance was not one of a side ready for promotion as Eccleshill struggled to get into the game as Brigg Town showed their qualities.

The first clear chance of the game fell to the home side after a good cross put the ball in the perfect position just yards from goal. Thankfully for the Eagles the subsequent header was put way wide.

Brigg kept the pressure on though and a sloppy foul outside the box provided another good chance for the club who sit bottom of the league. The free kick was well taken but tipped over the bar by Dominic Smith who had a commanding performance throughout.

With the half drawing to a close, Eccleshill were denied a stonewall penalty as Jonny Irving was dragged to the floor, leaving the Eagles frustrated going into the break.

With Charlie Flaherty making his return from the bench, the midfielder was the catalyst for the Eagles improved performance as he quickly got on the ball and began to open up play. Irving also began to gain a major influence on the game and was denied his first goal back by the woodwork.

Shortly after, a good through ball from Flaherty found the feet of Antony Brown who held the ball well to find Irving who then returned the favour, setting Brown only for his strike to travel over the bar.

The Eagles continues to put the pressure on as Andy Cooper forced a great save from the Brigg goalkeeper and then Irving was once again causing problems as he put a great chance, that was harder to miss than score, wide.

Irving quickly made up for the miss when the Eagles top scorer found the back of the net moments later to break the deadlock. A good freekick caused confusion for the Brigg shot stopper who fumbled the ball into the path of Irving for a tap in and perhaps the easiest goal he will get this season.

From there on Regan's side were In cruise control as Brigg began to show their frustrations with a member of their management side being sent off.

A late chance came for Tom rose who showed his abilities once again coming off the bench, but his one on one was snuffed out by the Brigg goalkeeper.

Eccleshill now move on to next Saturdays game against Ollerton town as they look to create another winning run together.
