An odd game!

By

Players short and give and take on the tries but who came out on top?

2nds play the game of all games!!!

As usual the 2nd team started in its normal organised way, with a meet at the club two and a half hours before kick off due to our beloved captain not remembering that the kick off time was 3pm!!! The band of eight yes eight players left for Eastleigh club which was baking in a almost barmy summers day more for BBQs than rugby. Upon arrival the eight were meet with three others so making eleven, things were looking up. Mr Owen took us on his usual warm up to the usual comments of " what is he on, and I don't want to peak too soon", all of which fell onto deaf ears. After Bizzy had had a little chat with the Eastleigh Captain we managed to get two more players so now it was 13 verses 17...let the game begin.

We started with a good positive mind set and went through some good passes and put in hard tackles but soon noticed that it was going to be a hard game. Eastleigh must have thought that they were going to romp home and score points willy-nilly, but they had not taken into account that this was the 2nds and we don't do that! The game was played by us through our forwards especially the front five as they had to take on the pack of eight, but as to normal plan we did take them on and did bully them around, which left our two pacey back rowers to hunt down their backs so making up the numbers in defence, and what a defence.

Hits were being made and it was only the extra players out on the wings that made the difference. Well done to our backs for all the hard runs both going forward and in defence and showing the forwards how to ruck.
It was soon apparent that when they scored points, then so did we, and this appeared to upset them, as they started to moan at each other, but the game was duly won by Eastleigh when they used the two man overlap that they had with the final score being 57-36. Our trys were scored by Mike 3, and Scotty "the wolfman" 2.

The move of the match ( and it hurts to say this) must go down to our hooker Ross, who managed to throw a long straight lineout ball over the Eastliegh jumpers, which was cleanly caught by our scumhalf Mike, who then run half the length of the pitch almost untouched to score under the posts... he then missed the conversion!

We won't mention that Ross also nearly saved a try but dropped the ball whilst in our own goal and then it was pounced upon by Eastleigh to allow them to score!!!

All in all a great game was played and everyone agreed that that is how rugby should be played!!!
