Following on from the weekend's disappointment against Airbus Youth, Flint Mountain looked to get get on track with their first away game of the season, with a short trip to Mold Town United. Manager Rob Marshall was able to welcome goalkeeper Ricky Bennett back between the sticks and Shane Owens to defence, whilst Richie Hughes, Lee Messham and Tommy O'Neil all made their first appearances of the season.
The game could not get off to a better start, as Flint Mountain took the lead within three minutes. James Jones, starting for the first time, picked up the ball before aiming a forty yard diagonal ball into the penalty area, where Marc Gunther headed home, unmarked at the far post. With the game still in the opening stages, Gunther then grabbed his second ball, as he reacted first on the turn inside the penalty area, before his left footed effort beat the Mold goalkeeper.
Mold were struggling to make any impact at the other end, but Gunther continued to terrorise the Mold defence, and with just over half an hour played, he completed his perfect hat-trick. After the ball was won in the Mountain half, the ball was played over the right back and into the path of Gunther. With acres of space to move into, Gunther strode forward, before opening body and sliding the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.
In the second half, any thoughts of a Mold fightback were quickly extinguished, as Gunther picked up his fourth goal of the game. Racing clear of the Mold defence after another lovely ball forward from James Jones, Gunther lifted the ball over the goalkeeper, leaving him a simple tap in into the empty net. There were chances a plenty throughout the half to further increase the lead, as Gunther, Richie Hughes, Lee Messham and Keiran Farr all squandered chances. However, with six minutes remaining, Lee Messham got into the scoring. Messham found the ball at the back post, before calmly slotting the ball home to round off a confident Mountain performance.
Next up for Flint Mountain is another away trip, where we travel to Shotton to take on Aston Park Rangers. Kick off at the 33 Club on Saturday afternoon is 14:30.
