Flint surrender Two Goal Advantage
After a blistering start, Flint allowed their opponents back into the game, with a draw a fair result over the 90 minutes.
The Silkmen raced into the lead after 4 minutes, when Jack Lewis played a ball through a crowded box , that Shaun Beck latched onto at the far post for an easy tap in. On 8 minutes, the lead was doubled following a foul on Rob Jones. Jack Stewart stepped up to curl a 20 yard free kick into the net.
A couple of minutes later, Ruthin had their first sight of the Flint goal, when Jordan MacCarter was through, but shot wide of the target.
A speculative long range effort by Gwion Owen for the hosts paid dividends on 19 minutes, as it looped over Elliot Quinlan and into the net, to pull a goal back. The comeback was complete on 37 minutes, when MacCarter held off a challenge from Carl Rodgers, and with Quinlan hesitating about whether or not to come out to him, he calmly slotted the ball home.
After such a good start, Flint had become complacent and paid the price, as Ruthin fought their way back into the match. The longer the match went on, the more dangerous the hosts became.
On 64 minutes, a MacCarter shot bear Quinlan, but fortunately good covering on the line by Kyle Smyth enabled him to block the effort and clear the danger.
Flint found a second wind as the game entered the final 10 minutes, and created a couple of decent chances. First, an Alieu Sheriff cross found an unmarked Keiron Price, but the youngster's effort went straight at keeper Goldston. Then, on 89 minutes, another Stewart free kick whistled just over the bar. But in truth, a victory would have flattered Flint on the day, and a draw was a fair result.
