Tales of the unexpected....

If the Blues had won yesterday & last Saturday we'd have been 2nd this morning - small margins......

As I drove to the match yesterday I didn't expect to see us drop any points & I didn't expect to see Sebba virtually throwing one in - sadly we saw both. Even the Magnificent Malkowski makes mistakes from time to time!

We were all looking for a reaction after the defeat at Lincoln - unfortunately the reaction was nervy, hesitant & fairly indistinguished - after an initial 25 minutes when it looked like we would blow the visitors away, which makes the result even more frustrating.

The Blues almost scored with the first move of the game - Duggie whipped a great cross in & Gav got miles above anyone else & powered a header against the bar. A couple of minutes later & it was 1 nil, with Danny Frost sticking it home after a defensive mix up, the Icemans 5th goal for Frickley. Frosty & Gav combined for another attack which gave Danny 2 bites at it & ended with Shawn Mitchell firing over.

On 24 minutes Cam Hough scored from close range, following a knock back from Frosty from a Darkenbauer exocet......& that should have seen us set up a comfortable win.

The Blues huffed & puffed but just before half time Romulus lumped a fairly innocuous ball forward, Sebba went up with the forward & basically dropped it on to his toe for him to walk it in & make it 2-1.

HALF TIME - FRICKLEY 2 ROMULUS 1

The visitors came out on the front foot & for some reason the Blues went into full blown panic mode & after 15 minutes of the half they had plenty to panic about as a free kick came in & Romulus were gifted a free header to make to 2-2. A double substitution straight after as Jack Burton replaced Mitch & Stone Cold Steve Hopewell coming on for Frosty - I've got to admit this young reporter thought Frosty was causing the visitors all the problems they could handle so I didn't quite get that one.

Hazel had the ball in the net from a good ball from Hopewell but it got chalked off for offside.

Shortly after Fab Bailey replaced Teddy Bloor - our 3rd sub used.

On 70 minutes, a bit of ping pong in the box & the ball comes to Haze on the edge of the box & his goal bound shot hits a defender straight in the dial & goes out for a corner. The resultant corner ends up with Haze in a similar position, this time he finds the onion bag by way of a slight deflection - Jacobs 20th goal of the season. 3-2 & Frickley just need good game management to see the game out.

Romulus hadn't read the script & once again were given an easy chance & they made it 3-3.

Cam Hough pulled up shortly afterwards & the Blues were down to 10 men.

We had a couple of scraps of chances to win it but we had too many Strictly 'kicks & flicks' when the simple, easy pass would have been the killer ball.

FULL TIME - FRICKLEY 3 ROMULUS 3

A very tame performance - we've looked under no pressure in recent matches as we've started our attacks from the back & defended from the front but yesterday it all went out of the window. When we pass the ball on the floor it's great football but we seemed to resort to last seasons hoofball way too quickly.

WEBMASTER MOTM - no-one was particularly poor but no-one was particularly great either so I'm giving it to Frosty as he gave Romulus all the trouble they could handle prior to being subbed

183 through the gate - thank you to everyone who attended

Next up is Athersley in the Senior Cup on Tuesday at the Bigfellas Wezziecana, kick off 7:45, see you there
