Sweeping in a Wezzie wonderland!!!

Watch the video highlights of yesterdays game & all it needs is Keith Weller in tights, retro kits & dodgy barnets (although the Lincoln keepers was a bit....) & it could have been the Baseball Ground in 1973 - but we've got Danny Burns (more of him later) instead of Kenny Burns!

Firstly the club would like to thank everyone who did their bit to make sure the game was completed - that includes both teams, the officials but mostly anyone who picked up a brush to keep the pitch playable. I won't forget the sight of Craig Spink running down the touchline, doing about 80mph with a sweeping brush in his hand for a very long time. That's the sort of spirit at this club, the same sort of spirit that sees you 2 down after a very mediocre first half & then come back & smash 5 in - between snow breaks!

Jake Turner came in to replace Hugo who is trying to secure a pro-contract so may not be available week in week out, Reece McGinley came into the starting eleven & Darkenbauer returned after a bit of man-flu.

The first half was largely reminiscent of the recent home game against Kidsgrove where we never got out of the starting blocks - Haze had a good chance after great work by McGinley & he had another chance well saved & Darker shot just wide but that aside it was all Lincoln. They took a 2 goal lead - the first from a very iffy penalty (the Lincoln player later admitted there was no contact on him) - & it only remained at 2 as a result of 2 or 3 goal line clearances & blocks from the home defence.

HALF TIME - FRICKLEY 0 LINCOLN 2

Frickley came out with much better intent 2nd half. 5 minutes gone, Darkenbauer throw is cleared back to him & he whips in a cross for Danny Burns to head home. 10 minutes later - rinse & repeat, Darker throw is cleared, he bangs a cross in, Burns Unit does the rest. 3 minutes later & it's time for Haze to get in on the act. He shows the sort of pace that would melt perma-frost, gets past his man & his shot cum cross ends up in the onion bag (not you Jerry). Was there a touch from a defender on the way - who knows but I ain't taking the goal off him. That's 37 for the season & his 60th Frickley goal.

5 minutes later Haze & Ben Algar combine well to set up Tyler Walton - 4-2.

Then we had a couple of snow breaks & the snow brooms came out whilst the players sheltered in the old tunnel.

Duggie replaced Teddy Bloor.

Next big event - Gav is clean through, keeper comes out of his box & cleans him out - straight red & a Frickley free kick on the edge of the box.

Ishy D replaced Tyler Walton

But Lincoln aren't finished & they make it 4-3 from a slight lapse in concentration. They nearly make it 4-4 but are prevented by another goal line clearance from which Frickley break straight down the other end through Haze who passes to Duggie & he is chopped down in the box. Up steps Gav to make it 5-3 from the spot.

What a game - you don't get many games played in conditions like yesterday, which is a shame because it was enjoyable to watch. It took me 3 hours to drive 20-odd miles home - but do you know what, it was flipping worth it!

WEBMASTER MOTM - this is really MOT second half as we never really got started in the first. Big shout for Ben Algar & Sam Liversidge. Reece McGinley was real quality & Haze & Gav gave the defence all they could handle. But it boiled down to 2 players for me - Danny Burns got us back into the game & Darkenbauer took it away from Lincoln. It was the ideal Darker game & we got a typical Darker performance - sleeves up & get stuck in. So Darker just nicks it from Burns Unit - mainly because he said he'd 'have a word' if I didn't pick him!!

164 through the gate so thank you to everyone who braved the conditions

Next up is Carlton on Monday at the Wezzie although that game has to be in very serious doubt but we'll keep you informed across our social media platforms
