Rushall Olympic 4-1 Frickley Athletic

By

The Blues were comfortably beaten 4-1 at Rushall Olympic with Gavin Allott scoring an 85th minute consolation goal.

It was a missed opportunity for the Blues in their quest to move out of the bottom four with Marine also losing but once the home side had taken the lead the Blues were rarely in the game.

Gavin Allott returned to the side after suspension at the expense of Luke Hinsley whilst Joe Wilcox was missing through injury. Sam Denton and Luke Jeffs formed the central defensive partnership with Andy Villermann moving to left full back.

Rushall’s James Dance had an 18 yard shot deflected wide in the 4th minute whilst Allott put a spectacular 25 yard effort over the bar a minute later for the Blues.

Dance was involved again in the 11th minute when he was sent clear but he blazed wide from the edge of the box..

The Blues carved out their best chance so far in the 14th minute when Luke Sharry sent Fernando Moke away down the right of the box but he shot wide of the near post.

A Luke Jeffs free-kick in the 18th minute saw Denton’s 10 yard header comfortably collected by Chris Gemmell whilst Sharry put a 30 yard shot wide of the right hand post with Gemmell beaten.

Rushall took the lead in the 36th minute when Christian Dacres headed in a corner from close range and they could have added a second in stoppage time when Matty Wood latched onto a long free-kick but Ben Simpson pulled off a great save to deny him.

Minutes after the start of the second half Allott cut in from the left and shot wide from 18 yards but Rushall crushed any hopes of a Blues’ comeback on 51 minutes when Dacres hit a cracking shot into the top right hand corner from 25 yards.

Hinsley came on to replace Kasper Amdal in the 56th minute as Karl Rose threw players forward in an attempt to salvage something from the game but within a minute the game was all but over as Jamie Spencer was left with time and space on the edge of the box to place the ball past Simpson and into the bottom corner of the net.

Rushall substitute Stan Mugisha entered the fray on 80 minutes and within sixty seconds scored the goal of the game when he brilliantly turned Denton on the touchline just inside the Blues’ half and appeared to waltz past half of the Blues’ team before giving Simpson no chance from just inside the box.

Allott scored a consolation for the Blues on 85 minutes, scoring from close range after Moke had cut in from the left and pulled the ball back to him and Picton blasted over from 18 yards in stoppage time when he should have done better.
