Clipstone 0-4 Garforth Town

Garforth secured a third straight victory with a 4-0 away win over bottom side Clipstone

Garforth secured a third straight victory with a 4-0 away win over bottom side Clipstone.

Two strikes from Calum Ward, one from Mitch Hamilton, and an own goal sealed the result for Town.

In the opening exchanges, Dan Coupland played a great ball through to Sean Hunter, but the winger shot over the bar.

Clipstone had a chance of their own shortly after, but it went wide.

On 13 minutes Garforth took the lead after an ambitious Hamilton effort hit the bar and bounced into the path of Ward, who duly placed the ball home to give the visitors the advantage.

Just like last week against Albion, Garforth doubled their lead very quickly, with Hamilton making it 2-0 just two minutes later. Jack Lazenby received the ball from a Luke Kitson throw in, before playing a great ball forward which was headed home by the number 7.

Things settled down over the next ten minutes, but Town would still manage to get a third before the break. A Kitson free kick was helped on its way by Ward, before Clipstone’s Charlie Taylor headed in into his own net.

Ward had one more chance before the break, with a free kick going wide.

It was the perfect start to the second half, as Ward got his second goal of the afternoon. As the keeper rushed off his goalline, Town’s number 9 slotted it under his body to give his team a fourth.

Mark Simpson, who had scored in six successive games prior to the match, was working hard, but couldn’t make it seven games in a row as his free kick went wide.

Clipstone ventured forward for a chance of their own, but a shot was blocked to deny them.

On 76 minutes there was a welcome return for Lee Turner, who has spent a period on the sidelines through injury. The forward had his first shot soon after coming on, but it went wide of the nearpost.

Pete Lawrie has pulled off some heroic saves in recent games, but didn’t have much to do during this match. He was called into action late on though, punching clear a cross from a corner.

The final whistle blew to give clinical Garforth the three points. The new-look Clipstone side didn’t look too bad, but Garforth did a professional job on them and ensured they travelled back to Cedar Ridge with a clean sheet and another win.
