Looking for their first points of the season, Glossop made the trip down the M6 to Kidsgrove. The hosts have made a decent start to the season and it has to be said that their facilities are top notch for this level.
The first half was a close run thing with Kidsgrove taking the lead on the stroke of half time. The stocky forward Malbon headed in at the back post after a peach of a cross from the left hand side.
Glossop had reason to feel unfortunate going in a goal down at half time, although Kidsgrove had previously struck the bar with an overhead kick and had also been denied by some last ditch defending from Glossop's Will Beesley. Glossop's back line looked good today and Beesley stood out as a top performer.
Early in the second half Glossop were unlucky that an effort didn't quite sneak over the line, but soon after that, Daz Mason made completely sure that his shot did hit the back of the net as he finished across the keeper with his left foot, following a real burst of pace. One all and August's player of the month continues his good form into September with a goal that any defensive line in this league would have struggled to stop.
As both teams pushed for a winner the play became a little scrappy, seeing Jack Burke carded for the Hillmen and Kidsgrove's goalscorer Malbon booked for dissent.
Russ Saunders continued his superb form with a brilliant diving save late on to ensure his side travelled home with their first point of the season.
Alex Elliott, who came on for injured Tyrell McKenzie in the first half received praise from his managers during the game, whilst Daz Mason and Matty Russell also played well, but it was Will Beesley who stood out most today, the full back making several key clearances and challenges that more than contributed to the result.
A tight second half could've gone either way, but a point a piece is a fair reflection of today's game. The Hillmen are up and running.
