Glossop took on Ramsbottom in managerial duo Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison’s first game in charge of Glossop. Glossop had 6 new players in the match day squad with 4 making their debuts.
Glossop started brightly and saw a shot from Pete Boyle from just outside the area saved well by Sam Ashton.
It was however, Ramsbottom that took the lead. Ruben Jerome was able to beat Darren Thornton down the right hand side, he crossed to an unmarked Nialle Rodney who was able to simply head the ball past Russell Saunders. The hosts led after just 7 minutes.
Ramsbottom could have doubled their lead on 20 minutes. Nic Evangelinos did well to find space on the right, his cross found Jerome Wright at the back post. The winger nodded the ball down to Ruben Jerome who smashed the post from just yards out.
A change after 28 minutes saw Darryl Mason replace Boyle but there were no real clear chances for Glossop during the first half.
Saunders was called into action twice before the break. Ramsbottom hit Glossop on the counter following a Glossop corner. Saunders looked to be caught off guard however he got back into position well and made a good save denying a low shot from just outside the area.
In additional time, Rodney found himself through on goal with just Saunders to beat however the keeper rushed out well to smoother ball before Rodney could shoot.
The first half ended with Glossop 1-0 down.
Ramsbottom started the second half well with Jerome heading wide after being found in acres of space in the box.
Jack Touhy had a free kick on 55 minutes, which was saved easily by Sam Ashton.
Just moments later, Evangelinos hit the bar with a free kick from a narrow angle on the left hand side.
Oliver Thornley picked up a yellow card and conceded a free kick on 60 minutes. From the free kick, former Glossop player Joel Bembo-Leta headed an effort towards goal which forced Saunders into making a stunning save to deny the defender.
Glossop tried to counter and Mason managed to rob a defender, he aimed to cross for an unmarked Bryant but Ashton managed to intercept the cross.
Bembo-Leta did manage to score on 72 minutes. Another free header and this time Saunders couldn’t make the save and Bembo-Leta powered a header down into the right corner of the goal.
Saunders was called into action just 3 minutes later. Substitute Jamie Rother pounced on a Matty Russell clearance, Saunders saved his first time shot and the rebound was also saved as Rother attempted to chip Saunders. Two superb saves.
Glossop were reduced to 10 men on 78 minutes when Thornley received a second yellow card after the referee adjuged the defender to have fouled Khalil Osi-Efa.
Sam Madeley had a long range effort saved late on and Osi-Efa striked the post momens before the final whistle as Ramsbottom picked up the 3 points, winning 2-0.
