The Gingerbreads Manager, Adam Stevens named the same starting line up that beat Gresley in the Integro League Cup on Tuesday night. New signing Jeremiah Dasaolu and new loanee Andy Wright were named on the bench.
It took The Gingerbreads only 7 minutes to open the scoring when Lee Shaw beat his man in the box and was able to slot home passed the out coming Frickley keeper, 1-0.
The Gingerbreads almost made it 2 when on 25 minutes Danny Meadows crossed the ball into Harry Clifton who shot is fierce shot pushed on to the cross bar by the Frickley keeper and out for a corner. From the resulting corner, Luther Wildin was denied when his header was cleared off the line.
The home crowd didn't have much longer to wait, as Luke Shaw collected the ball on the left hand side, jinked his way into the box and was able to fire home, 2-0 and 33 minutes gone.
5 minutes later, Frickley captain Luke Hinsley was sent off after a heavy challenge in the centre circle.
Half time came and while the players rested, the Gingerbreads faithful were entertained by the clubs U10s.
The second half started brightly for The Gingerbreads but few chances fell. On 60 minutes Felipe Barcelos found himself clear but sadly the Referees Assistants flag was up in the air for offside.
After 75 mins Frickley won a free kick on the edge of the box, the Referee blew his whistle but it seemed as if the Frickley players were attempting their own #MannequinChallenge. When they eventually took it, Harry Clifton blocked it in the wall and broke free but was fouled out wide. From the resulting free kick, the Frickley keeper made another fantastic save.
Minutes later, Frickley won another free kick this time on the half way line. Former Gingerbread, Laurie Wilson floated a ball straight in Kieran Preston's hands. He kicked the ball low and hard to Felipe Barcelos, who was able to take control and flick the ball out wide to Lee Shaw who shot towards goal and it looked certain to be going in but Felipe Barcelos made sure by hammering the ball home! 3-0!
Felipe Barcelos, Lee Shaw and Luke Shaw all came off to be replaced by Andy Wright, Michael Hollinsgworth and Jeremiah Dasaolu. The latter almost made it 4-0 with his first touch in a Grantham shirt, but his thunderous shot crashed back towards him off the post. Andy Wright, came close not long after but his header went agonisingly wide.
The last chance of the match of fell to Danny Meadows, he was played through by Harry Clifton but his shot looped over the cross bar.
Next up for The Gingerbreads is a trip to league leaders Whitby Town on Tuesday night.
