With chances to have put the game to bed, a late burst from the home side against a ten man Grantham side saw them grab an injury time equaliser.
An even opening saw both sides probing each other's defences without creating clear chances. It took 20 minutes before Grantham made a good opportunity for Danny Meadows. From the Gingerbreads first corner, Meadows header rattled the crossbar with Marine goalkeeper Ben Barnes beaten.
As the half wore on, Grantham got on top. They took the lead on 37 minutes. Pressing high up the pitch, Grantham won the ball back and Luke Shaw turned the ball square for Andy Wright to drive a low shot just inside Barnes' right hand post.
The rest of the first half was all Grantham. Jordan Hempenstall had a shot saved by Barnes and Lee Shaw overran the ball after beating MIchael Grogan. In the last minute, Luke Shaw tormented the home defence before his cross was cleared for a corner.
After the break, Marine came out looking a better side. Chances came for James Murray and Vincent Bailey, but weren't taken. A flick by George Lomax was a poor end to a good move as Grantham were made to chase the ball for a change.
Hempenstall and Lee Shaw both had half chances, but good defending denied them a clear shooting space. With 13 minutes left, Marine goalkeeper Barnes twice denied the Gingerbreads. First Wright, then Lee Shaw had efforts blocked by Barnes at the expense of a corner from which Olly Luto drove wide.
The game changed in three minutes shortly before the end. Rhys Lewis got a yellow card 12 minutes after coming on as a substitute for Stefan Galinski. Three minutes later, a shirt tug saw a second yellow card and the first red card of his career as Grantham were reduced to ten men.
With an extra man advantage, Marine pushed forward, but Grantham defended well. Matt Baker timed his tackle on Billy Smart perfectly to deny him a shooting chance. Michael Hollingsworth could have put the game to bed in the last minute. Lee Shaw played him in behind the Marine defence, but he falied to get a shot off and Barnes smothered the ball.
In the first minute of injury time, Marine equalised. Grantham half cleared the ball and when it was put back into the mix, Adam Hughes looped a header over Kieron Preston into the net. Roared on by their support, Marine pressed hard in the remaining minutes of injury time, but Grantham kept them out to take home a point.
