Ten Man Conwy stun Guils

By

Guilsfield 1 Conwy Borough 2

Guilsfield came into the game with confidence high following the win at Bangor last week, but our inconsistent season continued as three points were conceded late into the game versus Conwy.
All looked well with Steve Blenkinsop reacting first to Stuart Rogers's 6th minutes strike which came off the foot of the post and the top scorer reacted first to the rebound to find the net for a great start to the match.
Conwy fought back almost immediately with a strong attacking threat which penned the home defence for ten minutes.
The turning point of the match came in the 29th minute with debutant keeper Ben Heald rushing out of his area and clattering Guilsfield's Aaron Edwards who was bearing down on goal. The referee showing the keeper a red card for his rash challenge. Conwy re-shuffled with sub Gerwyn Jones donning the gloves and Leigh Craven being withdrawn.
There were unsavoury scenes at the half time whistle with an away visitor having to be asked to leave the pitch surround following a tirade of abuse and threatening behaviour directed at the referee .(HT 1-0)
The second half appeared to be one way traffic with the well-marshalled Conwy side repelling Guilsfield's lack-lustre attacks. The home side seemed unable to trouble the stand-in keeper, with only one shot on target throughout the second period. The home fans were becoming increasingly unsettled as there was the hint of a sting in the tail to this match. So it proved, with Guilsfield losing possession in their own half and a swift break leading to Andy Ford committing a foul in the penalty area on 88 mins. McGonigle stepped up to just evaded Mike Jones' attempt to save the spot kick. Conwy had their tails up and in a final twist, McCaffrey broke clear to shoot low to take the lead for the visitors in injury time.
Final score 1-2
