Three wins in a row for Hadley Wood & Wingate

Hadley Wood & Wingate made it three wins on the trot with a 4-2 victory away at Ware Sports in a game full of controversy at Wodson Park.

The game started quietly with Ware having more of the territorial possession and Hadley Wood struggling to get time on the ball. After 13 minutes the deadlock was broken when a Ware corner was powerfully headed in to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Ware took to time wasting tactics during the first half stopping Hadley Wood from gaining any momentum and only a couple of chances came Hadley Wood's way, with Lewis Jones having a best chance when the Ware Sports keeper made a good save in a 1-on-1 situation.

The second half was a different story, as it seems to be for many recent Hadley Wood matches. 5 minutes into the second half the scores were level when a Hector Mackie corner was only partially cleared and Joe Killingback drilled the ball home from the edge of the area for 1-1.

The game was end to end with a bit of spite. The referee pulling out cards frequently during the second half. Ware Sports managed to take the initiative when the referee gave a dubious free kick on the edge of the Hadley Wood penalty area. The free kick was hit hard and found the top corner with Ross Weinrab given no chance in the Hadley Wood goal after 65 minutes.

Then the real controversy of the match began. Three minutes after taking the lead Ware Sports were given a free kick inside their half. But before the free kick was taken the referee gave a red card to Ware Sports for abusive language. From that moment the game changed in Hadley Wood's favour and four minutes after the red card was given the scores were once again level after Marcus Rose played the ball to Lewis Jones who beat the keeper from the edge of the box.

From there it was Hadley Wood who made the extra man count but again the lead was taken due to a controversial decision. A corner was played in by Mackie to the centre of the box were the keeper was impeded getting to the ball. At the same time Ben Andreos was being held by the Ware Sports defender and pulled to the ground and a penalty was awarded. Lewis Jones stepped up and scored his second of the game low to the keeper's right.

In injury time the game was sealed with Ware Sports committing more men forward there was plenty of space for Hadley Wood to run into during an attack. Cameron Lyttle coming off the bench finished off a quick counter attack to make it 4-2 and give Hadley Wood & Wingate another win in October.
