Halifax AGM a Huge Success!

By Tom Wallis

On Saturday, July 16th Halifax Roller Hockey Club held their Annual General Meeting at North Bridge Leisure Centre.

The event was an opportunity for club members old and new, along with many family and friends to celebrate the success of all our teams over the 2010/2011 season. Club President, Julia Holden, oversaw the event and declared it to be “the most successful AGM we have ever had”. We were also honoured to have the President of Northern Counties Roller Hockey Association, Mr Chris Freeman, in attendance. Mr Freeman was full of praise for the club that he has been attached to since its beginnings back in 1985, he said “I’ve been part of this club for many years, and it is wonderful to see the club grow and improve as it has this season”. Mr Freeman also agreed to present some of the awards to our junior and senior players. The award winners were as follows:

Team Players Player Managers Player
Under 11 Ben Oldroyd Oliver Holden
Under 13 Daniel Bouabida Kira Cunningham
Under 16 Ryan Davies Ryan Davies
Senior Blue Sox Simon Bannister Billie Mason
Senior White Sox Ryan Davies Scott Brant
Senior ND1 Billie Mason Billie Mason

There were also awards for HRHC Coach’s Player and the Outstanding Contribution Award which went to Ieuan Hood and Tom Wallis respectively. And awards were also presented to our Under 13 team who finished as runners up in the Northern Counties Cup.

After the awards ceremony, the club invited all its members, family and friends to take part in a roller hockey fun session which everyone wanted to be part of. There were two adult teams and two junior teams that all competed in various races and shooting competitions, and culminated in a round robin style hockey tournament. The hockey session was amazing for all that took part, and even after a few tumbles everyone still had a smile on their face.

The whole day was a huge success, and the club hopes to build even stronger in the new season. The club would like to thank all its members for their continued support and we all look forward to seeing you in September.
