Comfortable win for The Ambers

By

Garforth Town were beaten 2-0 as life after Mick Godber carries on ....

It was all change in the Ambers dugout following the weekend’s revelations as Jon Froggatt took charge of the side as Caretaker Manager for the visit of Garforth Town in the penultimate home game of the season.
In a dream start, The Ambers struck early, Alex Rippon netting from close range after Town keeper Hagreen parried a Connor Smythe strike with just three minutes on the clock. Smythe was seeing plenty of the ball in the attacking third and was combining well with the returning Joe Thornton as Handsworth re-discovered their short passing game and cut swathes through the visitors back line.
However, it was the more direct route that led to the second goal as a hopeful ball through caused all kinds of problems between Hagreen and centre back Donaghue which resulted in Aaron Moxam racing on to the loose ball and forcing the ball home despite the attentions of the unfortunate defender.
With The Ambers well on top at this stage, chances were being created from all over the park. Reece Hands tried his luck with a snap shot that was deflected wide before a stooping header from Stuart Ludlam bounced just beyond the far post. Some great work from Moxam created himself some space in the box but his shot narrowly missed the target.
The Miners finally created a chance of their own when Poole tried his luck but his 25 yard strike cleared the bar, and it wasn’t long before The Ambers were on the attack again, with Moxam and Rippon both denied from close range as the half ended.
Garforth had the first chance of the second half but were unlucky when Hamilton’s effort from distance shaved the outside of the post, and in response, The Ambers came so close to extending their lead. Rippon flicked on a long ball for Steve Warne to burst through the Town back line and as the defenders converged, he fed Moxam whose shot beat the keeper but was cleared by a back pedalling defender.
The visitors were certainly making more of a game of it in the second period and were starting to get on top in the midfield area although Hands broke well to feed Moxam whose blocked shot fell to Rippon and his snap shot was close to hitting the target.
Danny Buttle and Froggatt replaced the tiring Thornton and Warne as The Ambers wrestled control back from the visitors, and the final substitution saw Ben Starosta appear for the first time since October as The Ambers comfortably closed down the game.
