Hull Isberg 26 - Myton Warriors 20

By

Hull Isberg Revival is off to a winning start.

Hull Isberg put the past few weeks of uncertainty well and truly behind them with a gutsy performance grinding out a win against a tough, well drilled Myton team.

As of last week the club looked dead and buried and was in danger of folding all together. Only for the remaining squad players to come together on a cold, wet Thursday evening at The Lord Nelson and discuss what the future holds for this club with so much history.

The plan was to move forward, focus on attracting the right kind of players to secure the clubs future, after a big social media push by the boys the response couldn't of been better.

So for today's game, a very new, youthful looking Hull Isberg took to the field and straight from kick off you could sense the passion and enthusiasm had breathed new life into the newly kitted out Isberg.

Leading by the front was the old war horses Blake Stratford and player / coach James Atkin eating up the meters down the middle of the park, backed up superbly by Jack Laws and Mike Harper who both return to rugby after a number of years away from the game.

Dale Hickingbotham was his usual dangerous self from the hooking position, constantly terrorising the markers and putting up big numbers in defense.

The back rowers of Jordan larvin, Steve Gale and Adam Sunman on debut caused problems with aggressive lines out on the edges and some crucial off loads.

Half backs Adam Clark and George Russell marshalled the troops well and with an effective kicking game managed to keep turning the Myton outfit around time and time again.

The three quarters was dangerous throughout the game, ever present Aidan Gardner always a threat coming from fullback, strong running Elliott Hepworth and speedy James Handley causing issues all game, also coming up with some crucial tackles in defence.

Probably the most pleasing aspect for Coach James Atkin was that Travis Smith, Jimmy Lutkin and Callum Stark all 16 years of age stepped up and did not look out of place. All three played extremely well and really stepped up to the physicality of Open Age.
