Ingleton take 15 on the road

By

Ingleton produced a good fielding performance to leave Holme with maximum points as the promotion race hots up

Early morning rain didn't hamper this fixture between 2 sides promoted from the 3rd division and finding form in the league.

Ingleton won the toss and opted to bat on a soft and damp track.

Holme took an early wicket in the 5th over as Chris Fleming played on for 7 off the seam attack from Lee Barnes. Hughes came to the crease looking to continue from his previous innings.

Runs were difficult to come by in the early stages with the ball not coming onto the bat or varying bounce from the surface, Graham Kellett was starting to find his feet and punished the bad deliveries on his way to 47 from 52 deliveries.

The experienced partnership of Kellett and Hughes added 79 for the 2nd wicket before the young bowler Bennett moved the ball off the deck to find the edge of the skippers bat into the hands of keeper Mike Halhead.

3 wickets fell in quick succession leaving the visitors 113 for 5 with 15 overs still to bat. Hughes reached his 50 guiding the ball through gully for a single as he was supported by Matthew Dawson and the pair added a further 20 runs for the 6th wicket.

Without a DRS system available on the day as sky were setting up for Sunday's World Cup at Lords, Hughes departed trying to push the total on with 10 overs to go off the bowling of Barnes.

The remaining 4 wickets fell for just 8 runs in 6 overs as Ingleton closed on 141.

So defending a total about 40 runs short of what was needed, the visitors made a positive start thanks to the consistency of James Preston's bowling and the help of a still damp track as the Holme side failed to score any runs off his 1st 3 overs.

The hosts were picking up runs at the other end with pressure releasing shots before Preston picked up the 1st of his 3 wickets bringing one back to bowl Liam Teasdale for 10. Varden followed closely behind driving the ball to Jack Chamberlain without adding to the total, leaving the host 11 for 2 from 9 overs.

Barnes added 6 runs to the total before Preston struck again moving the ball back to take Duckett's middle peg.

Worried by the turn from Hughes, movement from Preston and inconsistency of the track, Barnes never really got going and despite adding a further 12 runs was caught in the covers by Chris Fleming off the bowling of Hughes.

Hughes picked up his 2nd victim bowling Cotton three overs later with the score 33 for 5 off 20 overs.

Holme opted for plan C, seeing off the experienced bowlers of Preston (3-12), Hughes (2-23), and Kellett (0-23) who all bowled the allocated 12 over spells. Halhead and Kevin Barnes silenced the visitors and picking up valuable runs along the way.

As the hosts were looking to get on top and increasing their scoring rate Josh Capstick produced the goods as Halhead went to drive him straight only to get a leading edge up in the air for Whitfield to take the catch. Halhead departing for 43 in a 6th wicket stand of 59.

Ryan "Rhino" Teasdale came to the crease and was looking to finish the game off in style striking to big maximums of Dawson, he then departed as Capstick picked up his 2nd wicket as Whitfield claimed his 2nd victim of the afternoon, leaving the hosts 115 for 7.

An unusual change of bowling saw David Whitfield remove the gloves and enter the attack, with a role of the sleeves he produced a fantastic one and only over, his 2nd ball saw deputy keeper Hughes take a catch over his shoulder as Hunter tried to drive him straight and then Kevin Barnes was caught in the deep by James Preston.

Luke Gorst entered the fray and bowled Hunter-Dale with his 3rd delivery as Ingleton wrapped up a 23 run win starting to put pressure on the top 5.

Cup semifinal action today as a changed squad travel to Ambleside to take on Westgate A, a side also coming off the back of a league win, wickets pitched at 2:30pm
