Kilburn Cosmos hosted Royston in their first game after Christmas, the hosts started strongly with Martin Catterall powering over the line to open the scoring. The opening try came after relentless pressure from the Cosmos, with only a few last gasp errors stopping Kilburn taking the lead sooner. Catterall himself went on to have a fine first game back after the break earning himself man of the match.
Kilburn scored two more before the first half was finished, taking a 19-0 lead into the break. Kilburn knew that the game was in their hands and that a good start to the second half could blow the opposition away. Kilburn did just that, scoring 6 unanswered second half tries to finish the game 55-0 winners. The Kilburn tight 5, who denied Royston any meaningful possession with a powerful scrum and well managed line out, dominated the game.
It was a nice start to the new year for all involved the Cosmos managed to blow off the cobwebs and maintain their pre-Christmas form, the past few years Christmas break has proved to be the teams Achilles heel, this year the cosmos already look in a different league almost 10 points clear of closest rivals. Kilburn travel to Old Streetonians next week, they will be looking to extend their winning streak.
Quotes from hutt:
It was a great game to get back out there after a few weeks off and shake off the rust, Royston were not as strong as they have been historically but saying that our guys looked alert and hungry to always make yards. Martin Catterall had a great game and credit must also be mentioned to Kane Edgeworth, Pete Fitzsimmons, and Dan Marshall who formed the front row on the day. They dominated at set piece and looked sharp around the pitch also. Still though there are steps to take to get back to the highs of pre Christmas.
