KX Steelers Autumn 2017 Pathway to Rugby

The KX Steelers Autumn 2017 Pathway to Rugby Program is under way.

The KX Steelers Autumn 2017 Pathway to Rugby Program is now well on its way. The Pathway program aims to bring new (and rusty) recruits into the world of rugby. Running over 12 weeks, this program gives participants a bedrock of core rugby skills, building up a basic understanding of the game to enable players with little or no rugby experience or knowledge to play a match and join in with the Club’s main squads, with the aim for all to participate in the Bingham Cup during the summer of 2018.

The Steelers have been running this program for a number of years following a significant increase in interest from more inexperienced players in 2014. Building on past experience and a greater number of volunteer coaches, the Club has been able to offer an additional 20 places on the Pathway this year for a total intake of 65 players. In the lead up to the Pathway, the Club also hosted a number of 'try-rugby' days over the summer. These allowed most prospective participants the opportunity to experience the programme before signing up.

From the first Pathway session on 12 September, the attendees have enjoyed numerous skills sets and games focused on passing and communication - which have already challenged their understanding of rugby. The participants have now experienced their first torrential downpour, some (in)famous fitness drills from Coach Scott Marshall and enjoyed a slightly raucous welcome party at the Two Brewers (our club Sponsor) in Clapham for a special edition of Ruggercub.

They will soon commence contact drills and have their first mini-rugby tour to the Edinburgh Thebans Clinic to look forward to at the end of October.
Watch this space for details of a pass out game in December for the committed members graduating from the program.
