KXS 1st XV (17) v Maldon (26)

KXS 2nd XV (50) v Bancroft II (0)

Scott Marshall, 2nd XV Coach:

Kings Cross Steelers Second XV travelled to Bancroft to play their Second XV.

The first few minutes were woeful for the visiting team, seemingly asleep at kick-off the larger Bancroft Pack was able to win the ball back and build pressure just outside the KXS 22 metre line for a sustained period. Gradually territory and pressure built as KXS worked back onto the front foot. KXS were rewarded by a strong individual try to Jonah Weisz who chipped twice and chased the ball down to score a 60 metre try. The Steelers scored twice more before the half time break with charging breaks to prop Richard Surmon and Ben Brookes respectively. The halftime score was 19-0.

The second half saw the Steelers continue to apply pressure but over-eagerness to score without leveraging phase play saw a number of scoring opportunities not executed. Eventually the building pressure led to success with tries to Craig Terron, Chris Martin, and Ian Bowden all breaking the line. Quentin Louy touched down his first for the club, only to back it up a few moments later with a second try. The final score was 50-0 to KXS.

KXS 4th XV (12) v Bexley II (62)

Ben Pugh, 4th XV Coach:

The Steelers 4th team travelled south for an away fixture against a strong Bexley II side. The Steelers showed some promising signs early on, with the set-piece working much better than in previous matches this season, but paid heavily for a series of missed tackles which enabled Bexley to build a healthy lead.

Shortly before half-time, the Steelers were re-inforced by a few players from the home team which turned the game into a more even contest. This was not enough to change the ultimate direction of the match but two well-worked tries in the second half meant the afternoon finished with a final score of 62-12.
