CUP CLASH IS JOURNEY INTO THE UNKNOWN

1 week ago By Stevie R

Blues take a trip into the unknown on Wednesday night for their Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round tie.

Their opponents are Rotherham based Parkgate who play in the Northern Counties East League, a level two below that which Leek play at.

The South Yorkshire side have had a strange season having failed to win any of their five league games to date, yet progressing through two rounds of the FA Cup.

After disposing of Sandbach United 2-0 in the Extra-Preliminary Round they travelled to EVO-STIK East side Brighouse Town and pulled off a shock 2-0 victory, something manager Neil Baker will be wary of as he prepares his side for the game.

By contrast Parkgate are 19th out of 20 in their league with just one point on the board from five games. However they showed their liking for cup football again recently, by hammering Chadderton 5-2 in the FA Vase.

Baker will have a few more options available to him than on Saturday against Charnock Richard with Niall Maguire and Mat Bailey both available again although Niall Green is still suspended.

There’s £6000 on offer for the winners and a trip to National League North leaders Chorley on Saturday 22nd September at stake.

Should the tie be level after 90 minutes, then there will be a replay at Harrison Park on Tuesday 18th September replacing the scheduled Integro Cup tie against Newcastle Town.

For those travelling to the game, Parkgate play at Roundwood Sports Complex, Green Lane, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, S62 6LA.

If you can’t make it, then follow the action via our Twitter feed. A full report of the game will be on this website on Thursday.
