Town Come Back From 2-0 Down To Take 3 Points

By

Leighton travelled to Stotfold on Saturday only a few weeks after recording an 8-1 win over the hosts in the Premier Division Cup. However Town knew this would be a more difficult game and their fears were realised when they found themselves 2-0 down aft

Town included new signing Lea Coulter in their attack alongside James Hatch as Scott Reynolds went for an attacking line up but Town took a while to settle and went behind in the 21st minute when Terry Billy scored with an fine strike following a free kick.

Ten minutes after the hosts increased their lead when Kieran Barnes scored with a superb header following a cross from the right. Town played some good football at times and were
given a chance to get back in the game when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Coulter. The normally reliable Town captain, Dom Marsala took the kick but pulled his
effort wide of the keeper’s right hand post. Despite this miss Leighton kept pushing and in the 43rd minute a through ball was won by Coulter who slid the ball past the keeper and was
left prostrate by the keeper’s challenge.

Town brought on Carl Tappin for the start of the second half in place of Marsala and Town seemed to have a better balance as a result. Town drew level after some good team play that eventually saw James Hatch cut across his marker before firing into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Town continued to exert pressure on the home defence and went in front after they won a free kick for a late challenge on McBride. Matt Hall floated the ball across and it went
straight into the far top corner, Stotfold justifiably argued that there was foul on their keeper but the officials did not agree.

Stotfold pushed hard for an equaliser and they thought they had equalised when a cross from the right was knocked in by Billy but the referee judged that Tom Wyant in the Town
goal had been pushed as the cross came over.

Town saw the game out but know they will have to improve next week when they entertain Biggleswade United.
