The under 15s interest in the Collinson Cup ended in defeat to Mirfield-based Upper Hopton and this also brought an end to their season.
Bradley Atkinson – was again the backbone of the team’s batting, his occupation of the crease and 29 runs allowing others to play some well crafted if occasion brief cameos.
Fin Hill’s 20, James Lunn’s 8 (cut short by a run-out) and 14 from the ever improving Curtis Taylor set a defendable, if not match winning 85 score.
Lightcliffe started well with the ball as brothers Fin and Dylan Hill claimed wickets, run outs and catches in tight spells and at 18-3 the home side looked in trouble.
Unfortunately, the change bowling was less economical and was unable to constrain two strong middle order innings , halted briefly by a stumping for Ben Ward off Mack Smith’s seamers couldn’t hold off Upper Hopton.
Nevertheless an enjoyable season for a developing group of players, with some bright lights seen for the future.
