Under 11's win through to the Final

By

Successful season continues

The Lightcliffe under 11's gained a place in the Bradford Cup Final for the second year running, and for some of the players it will be their 6th cup final in just 4 years of playing cricket and the third of this season. The squad has a depth of talent and numbers that has proven far stronger than most of their opponents and they now look forward to the challenge of Great Horton - a strong unbeaten side who will test them.

Fielding first in the semi final against Baildon, wickets soon fell and at no point were the opposition really in the contest. Wickets were shared around with 7 different bowlers each taking a wicket apiece. The top bowler on the night went to Joel Dent who bowled a superb spell of 2 overs for 2 runs and picked up 3 wickets. Callum Barlow produced the best fielding moment with a wonderfully quick pick up and throw at cover to complete the run out of their number 4 batsman. Finn Brookes took 4 stumping and a catch (note - only one stumping given by his dad at square leg the rest given by the home umpire) to complete a keepers five fer. All of the side were on top fielding form once again, building and maintaining pressure throughout the innings. Baildon were all out for 46 - the exact same score that Pudsey St Lawrence scored against us in the quarter final the week previous.

The chase began slowly and steadily and a run wasn't scored until the 3rd over. Baildon have 2 very good frontline bowlers and the openers were doing the job of seeing them off and taking no chances as instructed. That task was almost done but then Will Eyre received a ball that pitched middle and hit the top of off stump. With change bowlers imminent, the possibility of Baildon getting into the game at this stage seemed a long way off. Finn, now with batting gloves rather than keeping ones, hit a crisp 32 not out with 7 fours and his innings was retired with just 1 run needed. George Leach hit his first ball for 4 and saw the side home. All bodes well for the cup final and hopefully holiday season doesn't disrupt selection too much.
