Lincoln United came away from the Novus Stadium with a 2-2 draw with Kidsgrove Athletic, which at half time would have been a fantastic result. However, on the second half performance there was disappointment at not taking all three points.
It was a bizarre game for a number of reasons. On arrival there were questions as to whether the game would be postponed as there was an area of frozen ground in one of the boxes.
However, after frantic work from the Kidsgrove ground staff the referee confirmed that the game would go ahead. In addition to this the second half was delayed due to one of the assistant referees falling ill with half time lasting 35 minutes while a replacement was found.
The White started well however lapses in defence cost them. In the fourteenth minute Valido Barai broke through the centre of defence to slot past Emery. Two minutes later Kidsgrove were two up when Lee Cropper scored.
In the thirty eighth minute Charlie Ward was yellow carded for intent, which was to prove significant.
Matt Cotton did have the opportunity to pull one back just before half time. However, his shot was easily saved by the keeper.
In the fifty first minute Paul Grimes replaced Andy Toyne. This was a game changer for Lincoln United as within eight minutes Paul Grimes scored.
Unfortunately, in the sixty third minute Charlie Ward received his second caution of the game and was given his marching orders.
Down to ten men united we’re still causing problems for the Kidsgrove defence and looked threatening.
Jack Wightwick was replaced by Kallum Smith and James Blunden was replaced by Harry Millard.
Lincoln continue to attack and were the better team even with ten men. They were duly rewarded in the eighty seventh minute when man of the match Paul Grimes grabbed his second of the game.
The Whites had a number of opportunities to win the match with Ryan Oliver hitting the post in the third minute of injury time.
On the second half performance The Whites were frustrated not to have come away with all three points.
