Terry Fleming gave a start to Luke Shipman who broke clear to give and shot just over to give the Whites hope of better things but that was all we produced apart from a brief flutty in the final fifteen minutes.
We didn't compete well enough nor did we pass it well enough which is a recipe for disaster. By the time Leon Ashman got the first of his two goals in the 26th minute Newcastle could have been two up.
We were fortunate to go in at the break just one down and we might have felt that we could take that and bounce back after the break.
It didn't work out that way and the game was over by the 54th when minute when Harry Clayton added to Ashman's 2nd goal and the home side led 3-0.
The addition of player-manager Terry Fleming in the 73rd minute suddenly changed the game. Then we got the ball into Sam Wilkinsons feet and chances began to appear. Tom Garrick, United's leading scorer might have had a hat-trick.
It would have glossed over a bad day but Garrick deserves special mention. He has scored 17 league goals which has got him in the top league's top scorers charts. He only joined in October so his return would have been well into the twenties and his contribution has been invaluable.
