Long Eaton Rugby’s 1st XV are celebrating their first win since being promoted to Midlands 2 (East North) after a nail-biting match away against Nottinghamshire side, Newark, on Saturday 20th October.
The team suffered three early injuries as they faced a strong Newark side and despite a solid performance from their replacements under the tough circumstances, Long Eaton finished the first half one point down.
The second half saw a determined push from Long Eaton, who came back to get the win 33-27, in a tense, well-matched game.
Flanker, Ben Taylor, scored a hat-trick and the team scored four tries in total, achieving a maximum total of five points from the game and putting them in good stead as they continue their league campaign next Saturday.
Long Eaton’s 2nd XV also saw victory over Newark on Saturday, winning 69-20 at West Park. Man of the Match was awarded to Gary Sumpter, who put in a storming performance and scored a hat-trick to seal the win.
